Manitou Springs Boys Basketball 24-25
The Manitou Springs High School Boys Basketball team wrapped up an exciting 2024-2025 season, finishing with a strong 16-8 overall record and a 10-5 standing in the competitive Tri-Peaks League. Demonstrating resilience and teamwork, the Mustangs made their mark in the league while showcasing their talent and dedication.
Throughout the season, the Mustangs delivered several impressive performances. One of their standout victories came in a dominant 74-34 win over Mitchell High School on December 19, setting the tone for their season. They continued their strong play with a hard-fought 47-39 win against The Vanguard School on February 24. Another key moment of the season came on February 1, when the team secured a 58-50 victory against La Junta, proving their ability to compete in closely contested match-ups.
Junior guard Cohen Barrett emerged as a key offensive leader, averaging 12.1 points per game and tallying a total of 85 points during the season. Alongside Barrett, several underclassmen stepped into significant roles, gaining valuable experience and setting a strong foundation for the future. The team’s youth played a crucial part in their success, showing immense potential for continued growth in the coming years.
In his first year at the helm, head coach Nick Nunley led the Mustangs to an impressive season that culminated in a playoff appearance. Manitou Springs Girls Basketball 24-25
The Manitou Springs High School Girls Basketball team wrapped up an impressive 2024-2025 season, finishing with a 10-13 overall record. Under the leadership of first-year head coach Gabby Santos, the Mustangs showed significant growth and improvement compared to last season, when they finished 8-15. Their progress this year highlights the team’s resilience and dedication to building a competitive program.
One of the most remarkable aspects of this season was the team’s youth, as they had only one senior on the roster. With a majority of underclassmen stepping into key roles, the Mustangs displayed determination and steady improvement. Their development was evident in a five-game winning streak, highlighted by a dominant 39-23 victory over La Junta on February 1. This upward trend reflects the team’s strong work ethic and potential for future success.
Junior guard/forward B. Sheffield emerged as an offensive and defensive leader, averaging 9.4 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. Additionally, freshman guard N. Barrett made a defensive impact, averaging 4.5 steals per game. Their contributions, along with the efforts of other young players, set the stage for a promising future.
Coach Santos focused on player development and team cohesion, which paid off with a more competitive and disciplined team. With nearly the entire roster returning next season, the Mustangs are poised to build upon their success and establish themselves as a strong contender in the Tri-Peaks League.
